Project Description:

The purpose of this project is to research the feasibility of an innovative residential roofing tile that will significantly reduce roof deck temperatures through natural ventilation.  Computer modeling and simulations will be performed and roof tile prototypes will be fabricated and tested.

Proposed Outcomes:

·        Optimized roof tile design that possesses the desired heat transfer properties.

·        Prototype roof tile capable of maintaining roof deck temperature at or below ambient temperature.

Anticipated Benefits:

·        Projected annual energy savings of $24-$490 for a 2,000 sq-ft home depending on home construction and location.

·        May permit the sealing of attic spaces in locations with high humidity for better moisture control.

·        Tile design may be integrated with PV for added energy savings.
