Organization:  Proton Power, Inc.

Grant Amount:  $74,600

Grant Term:  12 Months

Project Description:

§         Proposes to research the feasibility of developing a natural gas powered fuel cell using a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) based upon a radically new class of proton conducting electrolytes, known as solid acids, which are capable of generating 1000 mW/cm2 at peak power.

Proposed Outcomes:

§         A membrane electrode assembly will be fabricated and tested.

Anticipated Benefits:

§         The potential of low cost SAFCs for distributive power could translate into savings of ~$200/year over grid power costs for the average California household.

§         The widespread adoption of SAFC residential power generators could reduce the need for adding transmission and distribution infrastructure and lead to substantial savings for the state of California.
