Grant Amount:  $74,908

Grant Term:  12 Months

Project Description:

§         Proposes to research the feasibility of a novel biomass-to-syngas process specifically designed for low-cost conversion of biomass into high-quality syngas suitable for use in solid oxide fuel cells for power generation.

Proposed Outcomes:

§         A bench-scale system will be fabricated and tested.

Anticipated Benefits:

§         Estimated that 100,000 tons per day of biomass is available in California as a potential renewable resource for power generation and the proposed technology could provide the needed conversion technology to utilize the biomass.

§         Proposed technology is targeting farm scale systems that feed biomass at the rate of one ton per hour, producing 1,723 kWhs at a cost of $.10/kWh.
