Project Description:

The purpose of this project is to research the feasibility of increasing the life of molten carbonate fuel cells by using a sol-gel coating of LiCoO2 on the NiO cathode and cathode current collector to reduce corrosion.

Proposed Outcomes:

·        Material samples will be fabricated with sol-gel coating.

·        Methodology for applying sol-gel coating.

·        Feasibility analysis based on performance of material samples.

Anticipated Benefits:

·        Increase fuel cell life by 100%.

·        Increases capital cost of cathode and current collector by less than 2%.
